No two Damascus patterns are ever exactly alike. The pattern is formed by the layered steel itself and revealed by acid etching — it is never printed, etched onto the surface, or engraved. That is what separates genuine pattern-welded Damascus from cheap surface-etched or laser-printed imitations.
